Born in 1976. Brought up in the West Midlands. From Nottinghamshire to Hertfordshire then Bath. Now home is where my heart is as I spend some time walking this rich world.
Art as a means of self expression and communication began early. Volunteer work in an Art Group alongside schooling, and my use of art as personal outlet, was already shaping my future art work and career. Initially my work was personal, not shared. Doodles expanded via paint onto paper. Colourful, intricate, organic.
Contemporary Arts BA (hons) Nottingham Trent University. This was a time to experiment, share and explore my art alongside others. People around me inspired me, their personalities became incorporated within my work.
University of Hertfordshire MA in Art Therapy 2002-2005. I learned to begin to use my over thinking brain as a skill and a tool. Studio space, wall space, floor space, head space gave me freedom from my earlier intricate works. I explored the movement of my body in connection with the image, letting go of preconceived ideas of art to aesthetically please. Working with the process, communication, self expression, development and change. www.artandtherapy.com
Defining. Volunteering, this time in an art studio, London. Watching, experiencing. Images seemingly destroyed or irreparable, lost, gone forever. Then transforming, taking on a life of their own, growth and change. This artist made me feel brave. Not to stop. To take risks. Chaos, love, hate, anger, destruction, relief and joy. Embodying art as my representation of life.
